Event Security Officer – Cheltenham Racecourse
Be part of something iconic. Be part of Cheltenham.

The Venue - Cheltenham Racecourse is truly a venue like no other — the undisputed home of Jump Racing. We’re now recruiting for the 2026 season, offering you the chance to work at one of the UK’s most prestigious sporting venues and be right at the heart of the action. From the excitement of the world-famous Cheltenham Festival (Tuesday 10th – Friday 13th March 2026), you’ll experience the buzz of Champion Day, the glamour of Style Wednesday, the colour and celebration of St Patrick’s Thursday, and the unforgettable drama of Gold Cup Day. Across the season, almost 1 million racegoers will pass through the gates — and you could be there helping make their experience safe, smooth, and memorable.

Season Dates

  • Cheltenham Festival – 10th to 13th March 2026
  • The April Meet – 15th & 16th April 2026
  • May Race Night – 1st May 2026

In addition, there will be opportunities to work conference and events shifts throughout the year at the racecourse, plus occasional chances to support our other contracts.

The Role - As an Event Security Officer, you’ll represent Carlisle Support Services, the trusted supplier of event stewards and security for Cheltenham Racecourse. This is a lively, people-focused role where no two days are the same. You’ll play a vital part in ensuring events run safely and professionally, while delivering outstanding customer service to visitors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Being polite, professional, and approachable with members of the public and the client
  • Retaining and applying safety and evacuation procedures
  • Delivering world-class customer service to create a positive and memorable visitor experience
  • Knowing key locations on site (medical rooms, toilets, bars, etc.)
  • Monitoring safety and reporting incidents (crowd capacities, intoxication, breaches, medical issues)
  • Carrying out duties as briefed by supervisors, including access control, wayfinding, and ticket resolution

What We’re Looking For - Previous experience isn’t essential — full training is provided — but you’ll need to meet the following criteria:

  • Friendly and approachable with a strong customer service focus
  • Willing to learn new skills and procedures
  • Able to follow instructions and take direction
  • Confident communicating in spoken and written English
  • Smart, presentable, punctual, and reliable
  • Committed to working at least 50% of the season dates
  • Hold a valid SIA Door Supervisor, Security Guarding, or Close Protection Licence
  • Able to meet BS7858 vetting standards (required for SIA Approved Contractor Scheme membership)

Successful candidates must attend a pre-start induction and provide original documents for screening and vetting. These may include a passport, driving licence, utility bill dated within the last 3 months, HMRC letter, original bank statement or payslip, birth certificate, or a valid share code.

The Benefits

  • Flexible, casual work that fits around your lifestyle
  • Instant access to earned and authorised wages
  • Full induction, ongoing training, and clear career development opportunities
  • Inclusive uniform designed for comfort, style, and unity
  • Refer a Friend Scheme – earn £100 for every successful referral (terms apply)
  • Competitive pay rates, with over 95% of roles paying above Living Wage Foundation rates
  • Security Officer pay: £14 per hour, with holiday pay accrued hourly
  • Opportunity to progress to Supervisor, earning £16 per hour
