The Role

As a Vegetation Operative you will be joining a strong team of well trained, experienced and passionate staff who strive to uphold company values and deliver exceptional services to our customers. Use the training provided to follow HSQE and rail critical safety. Following WPP’s to ensure that all vegetation tasks are completed to the highest of standards and within the timeframes set. Using the systems provided to record work complete and report on faults across the allocated working area in a constructive and professional manner.

Reporting to: Vegetation Supervisor

Location: FR London Overground Region

Working Hours: 40 hours per week [Monday-Friday, flexibility on business needs]

Mandatory: Full UK manual driving license [drivers check completed at point of employment]

Due to the physical aspects of the role, individuals are expected to be capable of carrying and lifting items of equipment above 15kg in weight.

Main Duties 

Areas of responsibility as a vegetation operative: Platforms, Bridges, Stairs, Subways, Station Entrances, Cycle Sheds and Car Parks, Approach Roads, Lifts, External of station buildings and surround lease land.

The main duties of this role consist of the following:

  • Cut back 2-metres beyond boundary fence line.
  • 3-metre-high cutbacks as necessary and where a possession is not required.
  • Weedkilling and moss removal including up to 3 metres past lease boundary at any given location.
  • High level vegetation treatment and removal.
  • Removal of bird nests and disposal in line with regulations.
  • Having an active IPAF and PASMA licence to have ability to work from height if required.

Other Elements of role include:

  • Following of a PPM issued to you every rail period to ensure contractual obligations are met with FRL.
  • Deliver works required to a high standard.
  • Provide accurate reports using the software provided to you of works carried out and completed.
  • Close out KPIs issued to you in line with contract SLAs.

Tasks will include but are not exclusive to: Grass strimming, grass edge trimming, hedge trimming, weed removal, chemical weedkiller application, moss removal.

Housekeeping

  • Issued company van to be kept clean and tidy, free of personal objects always.
  • Equipment issued maintained and used in accordance with training.
  • Pre and post use checks of equipment to be carried out when in use, with faulty equipment reported to line manager in good time.
  • Company issued IT devices to be charged and ready for use on shift to ensure accurate reporting of works carried out.
      

IT Requirements

  • Understand app-based software.
  • Using a handheld device provided to complete tasks via WorkIT.
  • Taking clear and quality before and after photos of tasks completed, enabling us to show contractual compliance and demonstrate the works completed.

Essential Skills

  • Good levels of communication.
  • Ability to use own initiative and work alone as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to be pro active and efficient in service delivery approach.
  • Full UK driving license.

*Previous vegetation clearance experience would be desirable but is not essential. This role comes with company training.
